Historic District Building Permit and Appropriateness Application

This application must be completed prior to any new construction or alteration to existing construction in the Historic District.  Upon completion of this application, the Historic Preservation Commission must review the information and approve or deny the request at a public meeting.  An applicant's attendance is strongly recommended, and failure to appear may result in delaying the review of the project.  Work shall not begin prior to approval from the Historic Preservation Commission and obtaining the necessary building permit after the approval of the Commission.

Before beginning this application, please review the Cleveland Design Review Guidelines and have the following information ready to submit with the application. Failure to begin this application without having this information may result in losing any information already entered, requiring a re-start of the application

:- A current overall photo of the property as viewed from the street.

- Photos of any proposed areas of work as viewed from the street, and elsewhere on the property as applicable.

- A site plan (may be hand sketched) if any alteration to the site is proposed including but not limited to: driveways, sidewalk, building additions, storage buildings, etc.  This drawing should locate new elements on the lot and provide dimensions to the property lines as well as other building elements on the property.

- Any photographs and drawings that detail the aesthetics and materials of the work.

- Payment for the $50 application fee.

Signing of this application certifies that I have read the Cleveland Design Review Guidelines and understand that all work completed in the Historic District must meet these guidelines, even if a specific item is not addressed by the Commission in the meeting to review this application.  

Signing of this application also hereby certifies that I, the owner or agent, agree to the terms and conditions of the permit and that the information shown on this application is true to the best of my knowledge. I understand that falsification of this application will null and void the permit. I agree to allow the building inspector to come on this property and inspect this location at any time during normal business hours. I also acknowledge that it is unlawful for the structure to be occupied until a certificate of occupancy has been issued for the property. Occupation of the structure prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy will result in a fine of $50.00 per day, including weekends. It is the responsibility of the owner or agent signing this application to make all interested parties aware of these terms.
